Our five-year search for the
perfect piece of property ended in 2002 when we finally talked
“old Mr. Lamar” into selling his 6.5 acres to us. He was adamant
that he wouldn’t sell his family’s land to someone who would
take down the beautiful trees and divide it into a
neighborhood. We told him of our dream of a beautiful log and
stone home and of our desire for property with lots of tall
trees.
We spent a couple of years
traveling to various log home shows and touring existing log
homes. After much research, we chose Suwannee River Log Homes to
help us build our dream. From a design on scratch paper, we
worked with their architects to create the final design. Since
our home is a custom, cypress log home with a prow, we wanted a
builder we could trust to build our home perfectly. Suwannee
River gave us the name of our builder, Joe Whitaker. He is a
popular builder and we had to “get in line” for his services,
but it was worth the wait!
We were surprised, however,
when Joe started building our three-car log garage and then our
log home. We had not just hired a builder … we hired an
artist. Joe has taken ordinary logs and made them into beautiful
works of art, greatly surpassing our expectations of how our
home would look. Joe has a wonderful talent for making
suggestions for changes here or there that are making our home
even more spectacular. He has become a trusted friend while
building our home and we will be forever grateful to him for
helping us fulfill our dream. |
